the hamsa has many names such as the hand of fatima, or the hand of god. it is often worn to protect one from harm, negative energy, and the evil eye. the superstition of the evil eye holds that a malicious look is powerful enough to bring about actual misfortune for the person on the receiving end of its intention. the hamsa is believed to ward off this type of energy, and is said to bring goodness, abundance, and luck.
